The need for a broad based approach to preventing opioid abuse and dealing with the ramifications is explored using recorded interviews of professionals involved in Allen County, Indiana. The presentation illustrates how anyone can fall to opioids and the need for awareness of the connection between opioid use and heroin. Attendees leave with practical information they can implement and knowledge they can impart to the children and adults with whom they interact.

Format

Participants will learn about how all facets of society are impacted by opioid abuse. Videos from a wide variety of professionals will illustrate how these segments of communities are affected.

Objectives

1.Explain the connection between mental illness and prescription drug use and abuse.
2.List at least three pieces of information that parents/teachers need to talk about in order to educate their children.
3.Explain that prescription abuse is not a problem for only one segment of society: it affects the entire community.
4.State that addiction is a neurological condition.
5.State that recovery is possible and is achievable with treatment.
