Studio Art Course

In this multi-session course, students will learn the elements of art, experiment with different art materials, and learn about different movements in art history using the collection of the museum. Each class will include a studio art project based on artworks in the museum. A supply list will be provided prior to the beginning of the sessions, but the teacher is responsible for providing the art supplies.  Projects will include drawing, painting, and sculpture.  We recommend booking 6-8 sessions, with one one-hour session per week.

Format

1. Students will view a work of art from the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art
2. Students will discuss various art concepts and a brief history of the artwork, artist, or art movement..
3. Instructor will demonstrate how to create an art project inspired by the museum work
4. Students will create their own work of art

Objectives

Students will learn about the elements of art and about different movements in art history.
Students will be introduced to works from the Cleveland Museum of Art's collection, including Modern and Contemporary works.
Students will try working with different types of art materials.
