We know about venomous snakes and poisonous frogs, but dangerous plants! Discover the variety of ways that plants are able to defend themselves from herbivores (including us) as well as catch prey. Explore these familiar and not so familiar adaptations through live specimens, herbarium sheets, images and videos.

Format

1. True or False quiz - explore terminology
2. Explore types of defenses - external and internal
3. Demonstration - some defenses and other adaptations
4. Time is allowed for questions and answers.

Objectives

The participant will:
- explore various plant defense adaptations
- understand the difference between poisonous and venomous
- understand why plants have become carnivorous
- develop an appreciation of the variety of adaptations
