Program Description   Learn about Ellis Island and immigration a century ago from a park ranger who broadcasts to your classroom live from New York! Students in grades 4-5 learn about the immigrant experience at Ellis Island through a variety of interpretive talks, videos, photos, and primary documents in this 45 minute program.

Objectives   Students will:
-list key steps in the immigration process through Ellis Island
-analyze primary documents
-compare the medical inspection and legal inspection
-describe the impact of immigration on the United States

Program Length   Approximately 45 minutes long
Date/Time Notes   While Ellis Island has reopened after Hurricane Sandy, it is a limited opening, and due to construction and staffing constraints, availability of this program for SPRING 2014 is very limited.

As of March 25, we are able to offer programs about once a month (4 programs a day) on the following Thursdays: April 10, May 8, May 22, June 5 at 9am, 10am, 1pm, and 2pm.

To reach as many students as possible, we're temporarily (this semester only) encouraging classes within the same school to combine two classes (in some cases maybe even three classes) into one session.
