University Circle Interactive Cleveland
Poetry, PLEASE celebrates National Poetry month in April 2006 with a visiting poet, on-line poetry writing and culminating videoconference in cooperation with nationally-known Cleveland State University?s Poetry Center.
This collaboration includes the writing of student response poems after reading selected poems chosen by Arizona based visiting poet, Christopher Burawa. Participating teachers will receive project packets 4-6 weeks in advance of the videoconference with five copies of the poet?s newly published book The Small Mystery of Lapses, selected poems for reading and a lesson plan for this project. Once received, teachers will lead their classes through these readings and lesson plan. Through a group workshop/critique process, students will choose 6 poems from the class and email them to be published in an on-line chapbook in conjunction with the culminating videoconference. The chapbooks are intended as teaching resources for the participating teachers.
