Individual Workshops

Implementation Workshops – introduce the basics of videoconferencing

Videoconferencing Content: Programs for Learning and Collaboration
Do you need to get your staff on board with interactive videoconferencing (IVC)? This awareness session serves a dual purpose. First, for your staff, it creates interest in IVC and its resources. Second, it provides a model from which to plan and deliver ongoing awareness sessions about IVC resources.

Discover the Possibilities of Videoconferencing and Other Collaborative Technologies
I know what videoconferencing is, but what can I do with it? This brainstorming session will lead you to identify uses of IVC and other collaborative tools that align with the organization's mission and goals. Participants progress from initial awareness to a deeper understanding of the use of IVC and supporting collaborative technologies as powerful communication and learning tools.

Videoconferencing and Differentiated Instruction
Because the success of interactive videoconferencing hinges on the skill of the classroom teacher, educators must understand how the strategies used each day in the "traditional" classroom add value to the "virtual" classroom. While differentiation is an inherent characteristic of an interactive videoconference (IVC), skilled educators can maximize instructional value by including activities that support the IVC content. This workshop will help educators assess current learning environments and instruction to demonstrate how the intentional use of IVC in the classroom can impact learning.

Adapting Presentations for Videoconferencing
If you present over videoconferencing or are thinking about presenting over videoconferencing, this workshop is for you! This interactive session uses activities based on adult learning theory to convey how easily face-to-face presentations can be adapted to videoconferencing. It offers practical tips on organization, camera appeal, interactivity, audiovisual materials, and teaching techniques, as well as hands-on experience with videoconferencing equipment.

Integration Workshops – help integrate technology to deliver and enhance your curriculum

Interdisciplinary Instruction: Where does Technology Fit In?
What is an interdisciplinary unit? How is planning an interdisciplinary unit unique? Why are videoconferencing, stored and streamed video essential resources for interdisciplinary units? Discuss the answers to these questions and work with your colleagues to develop a technology rich interdisciplinary unit.

Engaging and Differentiating through Videoconferencing and Collaborative Technologies
To increase student engagement and motivation, this hands-on interactive videoconferencing workshop provides teachers with strategies to identify and incorporate standards-based resources in a lesson, unit or project. In addition, participants gain an understanding of basic concepts for effective collaboration and project management.

Creating a Collaborative Community
Collaboration can make the difference between a school district where the status quo reigns supreme and one where enthusiasm abounds and continuous improvement can be expected. This interactive workshop focuses on videoconferencing strategies to develop a learning community where all models of collaboration are evident.

Problem Based Learning Strategies Workshops

Utilizing Technology to Create Problem Based Instruction
This session helps an educator create a classroom that fosters Problem Based Learning. Educators learn the various levels of problem solving tied to curriculum components and how to link 21st century literacy skills to the relevant technology applications within a problem based learning environment.

Building Collaborative Community around Authentic Issues
This series of five modules will coach an educator in the use of collaborative technologies in the classroom. Educators will learn how to involve the students in a community based problem and gain successful support of community members within the classroom. Current technology tools will be shared and applied to the process.

Developing Inquiry Skills and Research Savvy Students with Technology
21st century learning skills include the application and development of students with critical thinking skills. Learn how to develop students who inquire and research utilizing today’s technologically advanced opportunities throughout these four modules of study.

Assessment: Assessing Student Work in a Collaborative Classroom
This session will help educators prepare students for the presentation of their work and for assessing their process along the way.

Presenting and Sharing Results
Educators participating in these modules will learn a variety of venues, technology presentations, and formats for allowing students to share their work with real audiences and to benefit from the results in a positive interaction with their peers, educators, and community.

Real Audiences for Real Student Work
Students work harder and learn more when they are asked to do authentic work for real audiences. IVC is a great vehicle to provide opportunities for students to work with cultural organizations, community groups, and higher education partners. IVC also provides real audiences, allowing students to present lessons to younger students or findings to experts in the field. Students can work with other students in an endless variety of projects. Most important, students become more engaged, are less likely to miss school, and learn more than anticipated when they feel the work will be shared with appropriate audiences.
