Program Details

Format

Vicki begins by sharing a poem she wrote as a child. She explains how she writes about the real world by experiencing it personally as part of her research. She then leads kids through a story of how we know the sun is the center of the solar system, hands-on activities that show the limits of their own senses, and how engineers think about packaging to keep potato chips fresh..

Objectives

As a result of this program kids will have
*experienced personal limitatations of their senses
*gained an understanding of how science makes discoveries despite the limitations of senses and experiences
*gained a motivation to read Vicki Cobb's wonderful and award-winning science books.
*learn some amazing discoveries about the solar system and potato chips that their parents probably don't know. Very empowering.
Have a book to continue the experience and enlarge upon it.
