Objective of Collaboration
As Early Childhood teachers, we know the importance of fostering international-mindedness from a very young age if we want our students to be prepared for living in a globalized world and becoming global citizens later on in life. However, this is not always easy when your students can't read, write, work very independently and, often, are just beginning to communicate in their mother tongue, let alone in English! There are many projects out there for students to connect with and work with students from around the world, but, unfortunately, the vast majority are geared towards older students. Yet, there are many great digital tools out there that, with a little help, can be used by young children. Our idea is to create opportunities for early childhood students to develop the more basic skills they will need in order to grow into international-minded, responsible, global citizens: learn about their own culture develop an awareness and respect for other cultures become confident communicators develop basic technological skills Some of the projects we have planned for the next academic year: Students take photos/ draw pictures of their homes and share them on Google slides. Students share songs in their mother tongue. Classes graph the number of family members they live with in order to compare home lives. Students illustrate/ retell traditional tales on VoiceThread.
